The organically flowing form characteristic of Louis XV — as if a growing plant or tree with branches — is fully realised here: four asymmetrically arranged branches with tulip-form bobeches spring from a single central S-curve stem, terminating in a splayed acanthus leaf bouquet. This naturalistic, “living” design was the very essence of Rococo — in direct contrast to the rigid symmetry of classicism. The period of manufacture is most likely the second half of the 19th century — the Louis XV Revival era — when these forms were produced in quantity in Paris and Belgium for the finest interiors.
