This magnificent emerald green glass bottle with its original stopper is an outstanding and elegant example of Venetian glass art. The design is enriched by broad, frosted gold bands featuring delicate, hand-crafted floral and scroll motifs. The applied colored glass cabochons, which masterfully imitate precious gemstones like rubies and emeralds, add a distinct touch of aristocracy to the piece.

Murano History and Traditions The history of Murano glassmaking dates back to the 13th century (1291) when the Venetian Republic ordered all glassmakers to relocate to the island of Murano. This was done for two main reasons: to protect the wooden buildings of Venice from fire hazards and to keep their unique glassmaking techniques a strictly guarded secret from the rest of the world. Glassblowers were even forbidden from leaving the Republic. For centuries, Murano artisans have honed their skills, passing them down through generations.

This specific bottle is crafted using the renowned and historical “Tre Fuochi” (Three Fires) technique, which saw a golden age in the mid-20th century. This complex and labor-intensive process requires the item to be fired in the kiln three separate times: first to blow and shape the glass itself, then to affix the rich layer of 24-karat gold at high temperatures, and finally to fuse the colored enamel details and glass “jewels.” This level of authentic hand-craftsmanship ensures that each piece is absolutely unique, embodying true, centuries-old traditions.

Condition The bottle and its stopper are in excellent condition, with no damage. All the “jewels” are fully intact, and the gilding has retained its original brilliance, as can be clearly seen in the attached photographs.
